The public plan should be ambitious enough to matter and clear enough to challenge.
What is Toronto That Works?
Jamie Atkinson’s public plan for homes people can afford, movement that gives time back, safety, resilience, jobs, neighbourhoods and a City Hall that delivers. The plan treats these outcomes as connected.
Is this mainly an AI plan?
No. The public priorities are daily-life outcomes. AI and robotics are tools that may help when they solve a defined problem, protect privacy and keep people in charge.
What does “for the next 50 years” mean?
Deliver visible results in the next term while planning infrastructure, growth and resilience beyond one election. The fifty-year direction is staged so future residents retain options and only the next affordable, evidence-supported step is authorized.
What is Gigacity?
A Megacity is large. A Gigacity is capable: able to build, connect, protect and learn while preserving human accountability, neighbourhood continuity and natural systems.
Are you promising to annex Vaughan or Markham?
No. The campaign proposes an under-study governance review that could compare stronger functional coordination with structural options involving Toronto, Vaughan and Markham, including Thornhill. Any boundary change requires Ontario legislation, public consent, independent review, Indigenous engagement and service protections.
Will this mean more taxes?
Every major initiative must show its lifecycle cost and protect state of good repair. The objective is understandable, sustainable taxation connected to visible service value—not a blank cheque or hidden future bill.
What is More Housing Faster with Robotics?
A worker-strengthening pilot strategy using modular and off-site methods, skilled trades and robotics-assisted work to improve safety, precision, quality and construction capacity. Success is measured by occupied homes, not the number of robots.
What are AI Enablement Learning Grants?
A proposed additional and voluntary support developed with Ontario and Canada for students who add responsible AI capability to their chosen field. Students who choose a non-AI path should not lose ordinary support.
What is Toronto’s role in high-speed rail?
The eastern Alto project is a federal foundation. Toronto should prepare Union Station, local transit, accessibility, Pearson connections and station-area communities while separately advocating for study of a western partnership horizon toward Windsor.
Why not publish every technical detail now?
The public direction and commitments should be clear. Detailed sites, costs, legal options, procurement, route engineering and partner agreements should be released only after verification and responsible review. Premature precision can mislead residents and weaken future choices.
